Indonesia's Waste Challenge Needs Visible Action.

Every year, the pressure on landfills and marine ecosystems increases. Awareness is good, but hands-on operational participation is what creates lasting corporate and social value now.

A. Current Situation

Indonesia generates approximately 6.8 million tons of waste annually, with only around 10% recycled. The remainder continues to burden municipal landfills and pollute rivers and pristine marine ecosystems, making circular waste management one of our most pressing environmental challenges today.

B. Learning from Japan

In the 1970s, Japan faced similar acute waste issues due to exponential economic growth. Through strong long-term collaboration between corporations, government institutions, and active local communities, initiatives such as the 3R (Reuse, Reduce, & Recycle) movement successfully shifted public awareness and behavior, showing that collective athleticism can drive deep systemic change.

C. Why This Matters Today

Environmental responsibility is no longer optional. Modern organizations are increasingly expected to move beyond passive financial CSR donations and take visible, participatory, and measurable action. Real events engage employees, create genuine social buzz, and establish long-term trust for corporate ESG reporting.

Why Partner Now?

In 2026, sustainability is no longer measured by abstract promises, but by active physical footprinting.

What Is SPOGOMI?

SPOGOMI is a modern, brilliant fusion of “Sport” and “Gomi” (the Japanese word for trash). Established in Japan in 2008 by Mamitsuka Kenichi, it has rapidly grown into a high-visibility global athletic movement across more than 30 countries.

At its core, it's a strategic, team-based tournament. Different types of waste carry different point counts based on recycling complexity, requiring not just sheer physical speed but strategic timing, collaboration, and intense ecological awareness

From a Pilot In Jakarta to
An Annual Strategic Tradition.

First introduced in Indonesia in 2021 through a joint collaboration between Marubeni and AEON Delight Indonesia, spelling out a visionary framework to address municipal trash issues.

Backed by prestigious institutional endorsements including the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, the Embassy of Japan,
key Japanese-Indonesian business alliances, and expert operations spearheaded by waste partner Rekosistem.

Following our inaugural successful tournament at Ragunan Zoo, the movement expanded geographical parameters to Bali in 2022 and has since returned annually as a cornerstone corporate sustainability gathering.
